【My Japan Story】A Japanese Native’s View on the 2025 Disaster Prophecy

You may have recently seen some alarming headlines about Japan.

A prophecy from a manga artist predicts a major disaster in July 2025, and this story has caused some travelers to feel anxious.

If you’re feeling worried, you’re not alone.

As a Japanese native living with the reality of earthquakes, I’d like to share my personal thoughts to offer a calm, balanced perspective.

First, My Honest Opinion on the Prophecy

Let me be direct: I do not believe this prophecy will come true.

In Japan, while this topic is known, it’s largely viewed as a piece of entertainment, much like an urban legend or a horoscope.

Life is continuing as normal here, and there is no sense of impending doom in the air.

The anxiety seems to be happening primarily outside of Japan, fueled by international media.

But Yes, I Am Always Prepared for Earthquakes

This might sound like a contradiction, but it’s the reality of living in Japan.

I don’t prepare because of a prophecy.

I prepare because Japan is, and always has been, an earthquake-prone country.

This preparedness is a part of our daily lives.

Our buildings are constructed to strict earthquake-resistant standards, and we have one of the world’s most advanced early-warning systems.

Being prepared isn’t about fear; it’s about being practical and responsible.

My Personal “Peace of Mind” Item

As part of my own preparations, I keep a small emergency kit.

The most important item in it is an emergency radio with a hand-crank charger.

Why?

Because in a real disaster, the power might go out.

Your smartphone, your lifeline for information and contact, becomes useless when its battery dies.

This one small device allows me to charge my phone, listen to disaster broadcasts, and use a flashlight, all without relying on electricity.

For me, this is the ultimate “peace of mind” gadget.

So, Should You Cancel Your Trip?

That decision is, of course, yours to make.

But I hope you’ll choose not to let fear overshadow the amazing experiences Japan has to offer.

Instead of canceling, I encourage you to travel smart.

Be aware, be prepared, and then come and enjoy the incredible beauty, culture, and hospitality of my home country.
